China, The next bear market, Bad 2018, Smelling coffee, and more

Markets were sold off last night and yesterday because of some weak data out of China, so Alan Kohler starts with this analysis.

It all tends to confirm something Alan was told this week, which is that a bear market has begun. Alan still thinks it’s too early to tell, but it’s pretty clear the bull market is over. As Alan explains, we’re now either range-trading, or we’re in a bear market.

Alan has also touched on 2018 looking like the worst year on record for assets on at least one meaningful measure, Steen Jakobsen’s comments on Australia’s economy plus Alan’s take on his thoughts, and offered a list of the top 20 ASX companies with high percentage franking balances.

There’s also the latest on Brexit, plus more on Federal Labor’s investment policy changes.
